The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), is working out modalities that
will ensure safety on Nigerian roads within the ‘ember’ months
(September to December) which usually record more accidents on the roads
due to increased vehicular movements.
The Corps Marshal of the Commission, Dr. Boboye Olayemi Oyeyemi,
disclosed this FRSC Academy in Udi, Enugu during the closing ceremony of
one-month retraining and re-certification exercise of over 2,000
professional commercial drivers in the employ of transport company,
Peace Mass Transit (PMT).
He said the command would enforce all the precautionary measures on
all motorists, especially commercial transport company drivers, in a
bid to curtail road accidents caused by human errors.
Dr Oyeyemi disclosed that all commercial transport owners would be
tasked to ensure install ‘speed limit’ meters in every of their
vehicles.
He stressed that the speed limit meters will be a guide to every driver
of a motor company that he must not exceed recommended speed limits on
high ways, failure of which he would be traced and punished.
He also recommended the retraining and re-certification of commercial
vehicle drivers working in every transport company while ascertaining
their state of mind, blood pressure and eyesight.
PMT boss, Chief Maduka Onyishi, who was present at the closing ceremony
said the re-certification exercise has become a custom in his
organization because it considers safety of the passengers and drivers
first before money.
